But it is not treated like a disease; not in society, the hospital, the media and many times not even in our own families. Jodee Prouse shares her experience in her powerful memoir The Sun is Gone, which chronicles her 40 year journey with her beloved younger brother who became addicted to alcohol. She believes that it is that powerful feeling of shame that keeps families hiding, their loved ones sick and the disease of alcoholism continuing generation after generation. She hopes her story sheds a bright, beaming light on some of the heartbreaking realities that go on behind-closed-doors. Although her family did not get the happy ending they were looking for, Jodee is proud to help other family members lost in a world they don’t understand.
