Today on Advocacy Heals U radio we discuss an often uncomfortable and stigmatized topic-SUICIDE.
I was grateful to speak with the beautiful Joni Aldrich in August and together we realized that we had so much more to say. Proudly, I was back on her program in early September to bring attention toward Suicide Awareness Month. It is a topic that I typically do not speak publicly of, not because I am ashamed, but rather quite the opposite-
“We are losing sight of what the problem is. People are dying from alcohol, drug addiction and mental illness. People are not dying from suicide.”
Be proud of your story; we can’t change it. But what this can do in the memory of the one’s we love can shift the talk from embarrassment, shame, blame, anger, and all the negatives to a positive. Knowledge, understanding, compassion, hope and help to others.
I think the one you loved would want that. I know my brother would.
